like Christmas in Los Angeles. It hit a low of 40 something yesterday here, which is a HUGE deal I think.... ok, for those enjoying snow out there on the east, been there done that, it's STILL COLD here.
Recently, I've been doing that lovely youtube all day thing. The one where you wander from one video to another, for HOURS and HOURS at a time, without thinking about where the precious time is going.
My newest obsession is fixed on this young 17 year old Filipino girl named Charice. Some may have seen her on Ellen or Oprah...others, lucky enough, would have caught her in David Foster's concert series. Anyway, she is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, one of the most TALENTED singers to come out this generation. It's like seeing a modern day Judy Garland if you will... this TINY little girl, with a broken childhood, singing since the age of 4 (very much like Judy, who started singing at hte age of 3), entering into music festivals (Judy touring as a child in the vaudeville circuit), achieving all her dreams in her teens -- singing with her idols Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli (Judy singing to her idol, Clark Gable, joining the ranks of superstars @ MGM), and being endorsed by non-other than producing legends like David Foster... if the early career parallels aren't enough...
Judy and Charice even have the same physical build. Both super supre short... a short neck, a bigger chest cavity, the seemingly unending cave of a mouth... perfectly suited for belting out hits... which they both did (do) with a powerful alto ranged voice, decorated with a very very prominent vibrato.
I just sincerely hope this girl doesn't go waywards like other childhood stars go aka Judy Garland... and keeps on realizing what a gift her talent for music is... I can't help but be super excited (can't you tell) for her first album... and where her future is. Imagine, witnessing Judy Garland from her childhood all the way to the apex of her career. Wow. incredible.
