EXPECTO PETRONUM!I don't need to add my 2cents about EVERYTHING. but LET ME INSIST. in this case, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix."By far, one of the most exciting and darkest Harry Potter film to date. Not to say it is the best~ in my opnion, it's hard to call between the clever twist of the 3rd installment and the epic majestic tone of the 4th. however, the dark and frantic pace of the 5th makes something blockbuster out of the blockbuster series; a perfect prologue to the arrival of the last and conclusive episode of JK Rowlings sprawling world of wizardry.Honestly, come on, how can you fit 800 something pages worth of material into a 2 hours and 19 minutes? You don't. so you pick and choose... you trim the fat and try to deliever the meaty goods... but in this case, "Pheonix" falls a bit short of capturing the "fantasy" that the rest of the series, including hte dreary long first two films, so lovingly portray. the only magic delivered with TLC here is thrown at the audience as an action packed sequence, whcih to be fair, is no less enjoyable, but in a more obvious, superficial sort of way. Also, a lot of character/relational development here is lost. you get more of others than some, and a few complexities from the book, you don't miss at all...for example, Cho Chang's whiney and horrendously pms self is completely omitted here... as is ron and hermione's amusing bucket of bickering. In exchange, you get a couple of charming moments of Sirius Black and a terrific portrayal of Professor Umbridge, the properly twisted professor and member of the ministry. Her Umbridge is so subtle, the effect is doubly dark and comical at the same time. All the major players, while sharing more of their on-screen time with one another, still manage to get better and better. Emma Watson's weird eyebrow speech (have you notice how they always go up and down like waves whenever she talks?) is less noticeable, ron's cowardice has more dimension, and THANK THE LORD for whoever discovered Luna Lovegood~ for she is PERFECTLY cast. The last 30 minutes is TERRIFIC and will set you ont eh edge of your screen even if you've read the book and memorized the plot backwards and forwards. you will be impressed with how well the story comes to life and in fact, the "magic" as mentioned before, has a pace and edge that has never been portrayed nor imagined by any reader before. but let me not set the standard too high for htose who have still yet to watch the movie. all i shall say is, sit back, relax and memorize your spells, for surely, you'll come out with a whole 'nother vocabulary for trash talking afterwards. ps. i'll watch it again so call me out when you see it! :D
